During the summer, the arena hosts family-friendly shows every Saturday night, shows climaxing with a stunning firework show. The Daytona Beach Bandshell is an outdoor amphitheater where various acts occur throughout the year. Don’t leave without popping into the gift shop to pick something up to remember your trip to the museum. Besides Florida history, the museum also has a few pop culture pieces that highlight a sense of Americana.

In 2005, the city designated the several–mile radius around Main Street on the barrier island portion of the city as a blighted area and has targeted it for redevelopment by private developers. Daytona Beach was severely damaged during the 2004 Atlantic hurricane season, especially by Hurricane Charley. Automobiles are still permitted on most areas of the beach, at a maximum speed of 10 mph (16 km/h). In 1958, Bill France Sr. and NASCAR created the Daytona International Speedway to replace the beach course. In 1872, due to financial troubles, Day lost title to his land; nonetheless, residents decided to name the city Daytona in his honor, and incorporated the town in 1876.

One thing not to miss is the weekly yoga classes in the art gallery every Wednesday night; those stretches are a little easier to complete when surrounded by magnificent art. While most of the museum focuses on art, the exhibitions rotate out frequently, so you never know what you’ll see. Along the beach, you can look for shells, enjoy the surf and bask in the warm Florida sun.

The Daytona Tortugas, a minor league baseball team of the Florida State League, play at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. As of 2000, English spoken as a first language accounted for 90.37% of all residents, and 9.62% spoke other languages as their first language.
